Chapter Three
|
I drove over to Central Park and sat in my car with the top down. The only noises
I heard were that of birds and the wind in the trees. I was able to hold back
the tears this time. No wonder I didn't want to come back to Angel Grove. I
was having serious doubts about this Power Ranger thing. I didn't know if I
could handle Jason asking me all those questions. I had sat there for two hours
and not realized it. I was day dreamed of the time Jason and I when we were
kids. I remembered when we met Zack. We were five at the time. I went over my
school experience, then to the day I had stepped foot in Angel Grove two weeks
ago.
I could still see Jason's face when he realized who I was. It had made me so
happy. Now, I had doubts. Finally I told myself that I would get through it.
I didn't hear the car door or the person come up to my car.
"Jessi?" I jumped and turned.
"Tommy, you scared the hell out of me."
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to. What are you doing out here?" He leaned up against
my car.
"Just thinking."
"Do you want to talk about it?"
"Not particularly." I said with my head down.
"You sure?"
"Yea." I nodded.
"Jason seems to think I know something." I looked at him. Tommy knelt down and
set his arms on my door; "I didn't say anything."
"Thank you Tommy." We sat for a few seconds, not really knowing what to say
next.
"Where did you get those swords?" Tommy asked breaking the silence. I looked
at him.
"My father had them specially made for me in Spain."
"Oh. That explains why you didn't tell Jason where you got them." I nodded.
The silence was awkward. We sat there for a few more minutes before Tommy stood
up.
"I had better get going." I nodded; "I'll see you tomorrow at school."
"Alright. Bye Tommy." Minutes later I drove home. I had trouble falling asleep.
The next day I made it to school early again. It was something I was going to
have to get used to. I walked to my locker and grabbed my books. Kristy came
up to me.
"Jessi, do you know where Jason is?" I turned to her as I closed my locker.
"No, I haven't seen him." That was odd. Jason was always on time. I ran to Ms.
Applebee classroom. No Jason.
"What's going on Jessi?" Zack asked when he saw me.
"Have you guys seen Jason?" I asked in a hurry.
"I haven't." Zack said.
"Neither have I." Billy added. I ran toward the door where I almost ran over
Ms. Applebee.
"Whoops, sorry Ms. Applebee." I ran past her. When I got to my car I jumped
in and took off. I had a feeling I knew where Jason was. Angelette Cove. As
I pulled in the parking lot I noticed Jason's jeep. After parking, I got out
and began looking for my brother.
"Jason?" I ran as fast as I could; "Jason." I screamed. I found him sitting
alone near the edge of the cliff.
"Jason, what are you doing here?" He just sat there; "Jason?"
"Why can't you tell me?" "Tell you what?" He looked at me.
"What ever you told Tommy."
"Oh, that." He stood up and faced me.
"I just don't see how you can tell a total stranger things that you can't tell
your own brother." He had started to raise his voice.
"For your information dear brother, Tommy is not a total stranger."
"But why him and not me?"
"I don't know. I just can't tell you right now." Jason was about to say something
when I cut him off; "Jason, you're my brother. And I love you with all of my
heart. Please don't ask me anymore." I was almost pleading with him. He stood
there for a few moments longer.
"Alright Jessi. I won't ask any more questions. Only if you promise to tell
me eventually."
"I promise." I walked over to my brother and hugged him; "Now, lets get back
to school." Jason let go of me and nodded. When we finally got to class, we
turned in our passes and sat down. Tommy leaned over.
"Everything cool?" He asked.
"Almost." I said softly.
"Ok." He watched me as he sat straight.
After school I headed home instead of the Youth Center. I needed to clear my
mind and practicing always seemed to do it.
I had been at it for nearly an hour. I didn't hear the knock at the door or
the doorbell. I was working on the gymnastic portion of a majority of my work.
Flips, tumbles stuff like that. I had just land a triple air flip when I noticed
someone standing next to my back door. I hadn't caught my balance yet and fell
over. Tommy came running over to me.
"You ok?" He asked helping me up.
"What are you doing here?" I asked; "I thought you went to the Youth Center
with everyone else."
"I wanted to make sure you were ok after this morning."
"Oh. Um, yea, I guess." He still had a hold of my arm after helping me up. I
could feel his dark eyes on me. Tommy looked around at my covered gym.
"Wow. I need one of these."
"Yes, it's rather handy." I looked around; "Feel like trying it out?"
"Sure." Those beautiful brown eyes of his kept distracting me.
Tommy removed his jacket and placed on a chair near my back door. Respects were
made. Then we started. It was easier than both him and Jason. He had one problem
though. The same one I had the day before, he was wearing jeans. He had already
tripped himself twice and I was able to moved fast enough. The third time however,
I wasn't. He went into a spin kick and his jeans had come to short for the kick.
I had ducked, but the wrong way. Tommy came crashing down on top of me. Which
caused me to roll. I had landed on my back and was laughing. Tommy landed across
my stomach. He too was laughing. Why, we didn't know, we just were. He sat up
carefully so he wouldn't slip and land on me again. I sat as he did.
"Didn't Jason mention something about jeans yesterday?" I said laughing.
"Yea he did." Laughed Tommy; "You ok?"
"Yes, you?" He nodded. Our laughter had died done. A dull silence was left.
We just sat there looking at each other. All of a sudden Tommy leaned over and
kissed me. It surprised me. I had never been kissed before. I didn't know what
to do, so I just sat there and accepted it. Tommy pulled away slowly. He face
was inches away from mine. He just sat there and looked at me. I didn't know
what to do.
"Um, …" Was all I could think of to say. I could see Tommy getting kind of nervous,
like he wasn't supposed to do that.
"I um … need my Gi." He looked down; "I could run home and get it quick?"
"I have a better idea." I had to do something to get away from the tension.
As I stood, my brushed against Tommy's. I almost shied away. I stopped and looked
at him, then finished standing; "Follow me."
I took him into one of the upstairs bedrooms and walked over to the closet.
As I opened it I noticed the musty smell.
"What's this?" He was standing so close to me.
"My uniform closet." Tommy looked at the uniform size ranges. From my smallest
to the largest. I reached in down toward the end and grabbed one; "Here, this
might fit. The pants anyway. The shirt may be to small." I handed it to him.
"Ok, um where can I change?"
"There is a bathroom around that corner." I pointed the way; "I'll be outside."
I hurried off to let him change. I was outside with the practice dummy when
he came out side.
"You were right, shirts to small." I stopped in the middle of a kick and looked
at him. The shirt was in his hands and not on him. I wish I could have seen
the expression on my face at that point. Tommy didn't say anything. He walked
over and handed the shirt to me; "Shall we?" He headed toward the middle of
the mat. I had forgotten about the kiss for the moment
"Yea." I tossed the shirt in the chair with his jacket. We sparred for about
another hour before I started to get hungry. I lost my concentration. He did
a sweep and it knocked me flat.
"Whoa, Jess, you ok?" He knelt down next to me.
"Yea. I just realized how hungry I was and lost my concentration." I couldn't
help but laugh. Tommy did the same. I stood up and stretched to make sure nothing
was wrong. Tommy stood next to me.
"I'm getting kinda hungry too."
"If you feel like hanging around I can order a pizza or something." He shook
his head.
"I wish I could but I have to get home. My dads probably gonna be worried."
"Ok then, I'll see you tomorrow. You can wear the Gi home. Return it to me tomorrow
or when ever." Tommy looked down at himself.
"Ok. I guess I'll see you later." He seemed kind of jumpy for a moment. Just
then he leaned closer and kissed me again; "Bye Jessi." He turned around and
walked toward the door. He grabbed his clothes and jacket on the way out.
I just stood there. When I heard his car pull away, I almost fainted. I went
inside and sat at the kitchen table. After about ten minutes, I grabbed something
to eat and headed up stairs. I finished eating and changed. I laid on my bed,
on my belly and started doing my homework. I fell asleep just as I finished.
I woke to my alarm. I did my jogging and practice before school. I showered,
changed and headed out to my car. Last night's events were fresh in my mind.
Tommy's smile, his bare chest and the feel of his lips on mine. I pulled in
the parking lot and looked for his car. When I saw it my heart jumped. I had
it bad. I walked into the building with almost a glow on my face. Kristy was
the first to notice me. I was at my locker getting my books for first hour.
"Hey Jess, you look awful happy today." She suspected something. I could see
it in her eyes.
"Nothing, just me." I smiled at her. An almost freshly renewed accent flowed
out of me. I wanted to tell her about the night before, but I didn't dare. Instead
I asked her about Tommy, she was about to answer when we saw Tommy come around
the corner with some buddies of his. He saw me.
"I'll see you later guys." He walked toward me; "Morning Jessi." We just stood
there looking at each other. Kristy all of a sudden felt out of place.
"I think I'm going to go find Jason." She took off.
"Um, here are your Gi pants." Tommy grabbed them out of his bag and handed them
to me.
"Thanks." I took them and stuffed them in my locker.
"Jess, can I talk to you in private for a minute?"
"Sure." I gave him a funny look. I closed my locker and followed him.
"I just wanted to apologize for last night."
"Why?"
"I think I kinda came on a little to strong." I shook my head and started to
say something; "It's just that I have wanted to kiss you since that day I met
you." My face turned red. I looked down at my shoes.
"Tommy, it's ok. You didn't come on to strong. And I hate to admit it, but uhm
… that was my first kiss." I was about the color of Jason's red shirt.
"You're kidding right?" He gave me a funny look. I shook my head.
"I almost wish I wasn't." I looked at him. There was look of surprise on his
face.
"I guess, I just feel like I moved to fast." I just looked at him; "How about
I get this over with, Jessi will you go to the dance with me on Friday?" He
said it so fast I almost didn't heard him. I thought for a second, he had an
almost worried look on his face. I smiled.
"Yes, I would like that."
"Good uhm, alright. I guess I'll uh, see you in class then." Now he was blushing.
"Alright." I nodded. He headed off and I went to biology. Wow, he had just asked
me out.
I went into the room and found my seat. I pulled out the homework I hadn't finished
the night before. Kristy and Trini were already there. They looked at each other
after I sat down. They both stood up and sat in the chair on either side of
me. I knew they were there. Slowly I looked up to see the both of them staring
at me.
"What?" I questioned. Kristy raised her eyebrows.
"Don't you have something to tell us?" Trini asked.
"Like about my brother?" Kristy said.
"Your brother." She already knew; "Well, yes. Sort of."
"Well?" Trini knew too.
"He, um asked to the dance on Friday." My wavy European voice came out.
"Did he really?" Trini smiled. I nodded; "That's great."
"I sure am glad James is in town." Kristy said to Trini.
"Who's James?" I asked
"He's my cousin." Kristy answered.
"Ok," I had no clue where she was going with this.
"Tommy and Kim used to go out. They broke up about five or six months before
you came here. Kim still isn't taking it well."
"Oh." Was all I said. Just then Tommy, Zack, Billy and Jason walked in. Kristy
and Trini gave me a knowing looking before moving so Jason and Tommy could sit
down.
School was rather difficult the rest of the day. Kristy and Trini teased me
all day long. After school everyone but Jason and I went to the Youth Center.
Jason had gone home to help his dad with a few things and I went home to change
and drop my books off. I showed up at the Youth Center about half an hour later.
Tommy and Zack were showing off. Zack was using a style he called Hip-Hop Kido.
It was really kind of cool. But Tommy was beating him. The two just laughed.
Kim and Kristy came over to me.
"Hey Jess."
"Oh, hey guys." I turned to see them. The three of us watched them for a few
moments longer.
"I used to go out with Tommy." Kim said quietly and suddenly. I looked down
at her. I was about six to seven inches taller than her.
"I know." I wasn't sure if I should have said anything.
"I hear he asked you to the dance." She looked up at me.
"Yes, uhm, … he did." I replied quietly. Neither of us said another word.
Eventually Zack and Tommy called it a draw. Neither of them were going anywhere.
Billy and Trini had already left which left me, Tommy, Kim, Kristy and Zack.
The five of us sat down at the table and talked about the dance on Friday. Kristy
had excused herself, because she had to meet Jason somewhere. Zack and Kim left
shortly after that. Which left Tommy and I.
"Come on you." He stood up, grabbed his bag in one hand and my hand in the other.
"Where we going?" I asked.
"It's a surprise." I hated surprises. We walked over to Central Park where a
nice late lunch picnic was set up.
"Tommy, why'd you do this?" I stopped still holding his hand.
"'Cause I wanted to." He said shrugging his shoulders. We sat a talked for a
while. I was about to take a bit of an apple when they gray things showed up.
"Putties. Not now." Tommy stood up into his fighting stance.
"Huh?"
"They called putties. Hit the Z on the chest." I nodded. I didn't really like
fighting, but I remembered the last time these guys came around.
"Lets get to work." I said we each took a couple on. When I finished mine off
I noticed Tommy being ganged up on. I ran and flipped in the middle of them;
"Hi." I said. He smiled.
"Let's get 'em." Together the two of us got rid of the putties. We regrouped
next to the picnic sight. Tommy contacted Zordon.
"Zordon, Jessi and I were just attacked."
"I know Tommy, come to the Command Centre. The others are already here." I wasn't
sure how to teleport, but somehow it happened.
"What's going on Zordon?" Zordon explained about a new monster Zedd had sent
down. It was called the Atom's Apple. Zordon mentioned that Pegasus was the
key to beating it. We morphed and began the battle. I ended up doing hand to
hand with him because all but Tommy were captured in a force field. I called
on the power of the duel sword and did what Zordon told me to do. I crossed
them in the form of an X and a beam came from the Centre. It hit Atom's Apple
directly, but it didn't take him down. He grew. And he got bigger and bigger.
I called upon the Raptor. And fought while Tommy finished freeing the others.
They and their zords fended him off so I was able to call upon the power of
the Pegasus. With my zords help we defeated it.
Back at the Command Centre Zordon congratulated us.
"Jessi you have shown exceptional strength and wisdom."
"Thanks Zordon, but I couldn't have done it with out the help of my friends."
Everyone got sheepish looks on their faces.
"You have shown true team work." With that, Zordon sent us home, Tommy and I
ended up back in the park.
"Man, the picnic was ruined."
"That's alright. It is the thought that counts."
"You sure? I kinda wanted to be special."
"It was Tommy. Don't worry about it."
"Alright." He packed up the mess and put it in his trunk; "Come on, I have another
surprise for you."
"You're kidding, right?"
"Nope, come on." He grabbed my hand and held it firmly. Oh, no. We were going
in the direction of my house.
"Where are we going?" I asked.
"You'll see." Tommy held my hand the entire way there. We finally reached my
front door.
"What are we doing here?" I asked nervously.
"You will see." I opened my front door.
"SURPRISE!" Everyone yelled. Jason came up to me.
"We never had a chance to throw you a proper welcome home party." He said with
a soft smile.
"How'd you guys get in?" All eyes were on Tommy. I turned and looked at him.
"Well, Jason wanted to throw you a welcome home party and he thought that your
house would be perfect. So when I left the other night, I kinda borrowed your
spare key." Jason tapped me on the shoulder. I turned around to see him holding
the key. He placed it in my hand.
"Besides," he started; "Today is our birthday." I gave him a funny look.
"It is?" He nodded. I thought for a moment.
"First one together in eleven years." Jason wrapped his arms around me, I did
the same to him; "Happy birthday little sister."
I thanked everyone up one side and down the other. The party was small but it
was nice. At around eleven everyone but Tommy, Jason and Kristy left.
"Thank you Jason. I appreciate it." I said with a smile. My equipment was covering
the couch, which left the love seat and the chair. Jason and Kristy decided
to take the chair, which left Tommy and I the love seat. I could handle holding
his hand, but this was almost to close.
"Not a problem Jess. Anything for my favorite sister. Besides, you deserve it
after what you went through today." I noticed how chummy Kristy was getting
with my brother. I looked at Tommy and back to them. I leaned closer to Tommy
so he could hear me whisper.
"How long have they been seeing each other?" I asked looking at my brother.
"Almost a year." We looked at each other at the same time.
"Oh." Tommy and I forgot Jason and Kristy were there.
"Jessi," I heard in the distance; "Jessi?"
"Yes." I jumped and snapped out of the minor trance I was in. My heart was in
my throat.
"You ok?" Jason asked with a slight chuckle.
"Yes, I'm fine." Both Jason and Kristy had smirks on their faces. I glanced
at Tommy. He was as confused as I was. Eventually Jason and Kristy left leaving
Tommy and I alone.
"So, what'd you think?" He asked.
"I liked it." I nodded and looked at him. We were still sitting in the love
seat. He propped his elbow up and his head leaning on his hand. He was looking
down and I was looking straight.
"Good, I'm glad." We just sat there for a few moments; "Jess?"
"Yes?" I looked at him.
"Would, um, … do you think we could have dinner before the dance on Friday?"
I thought for a second.
"Sure. I'd like that." His eyes were looking straight into mine. He was so beautiful.
We leaned into each other and kissed again. Tommy put his free hand behind my
head and through my hair. When he pulled away, he licked his lips.
"Mmm, you taste like chocolate cake." He said with a smile. I just laughed.
He stood up. I joined him; "I had better get going."
"Alright." I walked him to the door.
"I'll see you tomorrow."
Nodding, I watched as he ran across my yard toward the Youth Centre where his
car was. I closed the door and just stood there leaning against it. When I relaxed
I went upstairs and grabbed one of my favorite books. I had read four chapters
and was almost asleep when my phone rang.
"Hello?"
"Jessi, this is Kristy. Is Tommy still over there?" I looked at my clock, almost
one in the morning.
"No, he left almost two hours ago. Why?"
"He isn't home." I sat up fully awake. Tommy was late for things, but two hours
late?
"Are you sure?"
"Positive. Do you think something happened to him?" Why was she asking me? I
didn't know him as well as she did.
"He would have con-" My communicator went off; "Hang on Kristy." I set the phone
down.
"This is Jessi." Zordon's voice came over.
"Jessi, you are the only Ranger I was able to contact, gather the other Rangers
and come to the Command Centre."
"You got it Zordon." I picked the phone back up; "Kristy tell everyone to get
to the Command Centre. Now!"
"Got ya Jess, see you there." I hung up then teleported. When I arrived I found
Tommy lying on a flat table with a large cut in his forehead. I ran over to
him.
"Oh my God. Zordon, what happened?"
"Goldar caught him by surprise. He will be fine. Where are the others?"
"I told Kristy to get everyone."
"Try to contact them." I did, no answer.
"Zordon, what's going on?"
"Look at the viewing globe." I turned around to find Jason, Kristy and Zack
trapped. They weren't able to contact the others. I turned back to Zordon.
"Zordon, I have to help them."
"Be careful Jessi. It maybe a trap."
"I will." I looked at Tommy; "It's Morphin time. Raptor-Pegasus." I yelled as
I morphed into the Silver Ranger. I teleported to where the three were trapped.
"Jessi, get away. It's a trap." Kristy yelled.
"I know, that's why I'm here."
"That's my girl." Jason yelled, just as a putty jumped out at me. I leapt into
the air and came down on top of it. I protected my friends until I had a chance
to free them. I took out my swords and aimed the X at the top of the confinement
field. It obliterated. The three morphed. Jason went to get Kim, Billy and Trini.
"Where's Tommy?" Kristy asked me.
"He's at the Command Centre."
Goldar had a zord of his own. We worked together as a team and defeated the
zord, but Goldar got away injured.
"Good work guys." I said over the communicators. When Jason informed us that
he had Kim, Billy and Trini, we teleported to the Command Centre ourselves.
I immediately went over to Tommy. I removed my helmet along the way. Alpha had
cleaned Tommy's cut and was about to dress it.
"You'll be alright Tommy. I promise." I whispered it.
"Jessi, because Tommy is injured, you are in Command." I nodded. Zordon explained
what was happening. I was listening but I had my attention on Tommy.
"Good work Rangers."
"Thanks Zordon." We said. Just then I heard Tommy groan.
"Tommy …" I put my hand on his shoulder; "Tommy can you hear me?" They others
gathered around. He reached up to his forehead.
"Ah, man. Have I got a headache. Where am I?" He opened his eyes and looked
around. He grabbed my hand and pulled himself into a sitting position.
"You're in the Command Centre." I told him.
"Unfortunately, that was an attempt on your life. Zedd has decided to attempt
one by one to kill you. Tommy just happened to be in the wrong place at the
wrong time." Zordon looked at Tommy; "Tommy, I'm afraid you can not stay with
your family, for they will be in danger if you do." We just looked at Zordon.
"Where is he going to stay?" Kristy questioned. Everyone was silent for a few
moments. I was the only one who had the room.
"Zordon," I spoke up; "Tommy can stay with me." The other Rangers just stared
at me; "Hey, I have a huge house. There is enough room for everyone if needed."
The nervousness was very clear with my accent.
"As far as I know that will not be needed." Zordon told me; "The decision is
Tommy's."
"Will me being there endanger Jessi?"
"I don't believe so. Even if it did, she is powerful enough, she will not need
assistance." He was quiet for a moment; "But as far as I am aware of, you will
both been safe." Every ones eyes were on me. What was I getting myself into?
Zordon had a look on his pale green face that almost embarrassed me.
"Come on Tommy. Let's go get some of your stuff." I helped him off the table.
I noticed Jason had a hand in front of his mouth to hide his smile. Giving him
a dirty look, I unmorphed before teleporting to an area near Tommy's house.
The other Rangers watched from the viewing globe to make sure Tommy and I made
it to my house alright. Jason still had the same smile on his face.
Tommy had explained to his parents that he was in a fight and he needed to hide
out for a while. He grabbed a few belongings in a bag, and then we headed for
my house. I kept my eyes open. Goldar was not going to sneak up on me. When
we reached my front door, I unlock it and we went inside. I helped Tommy to
the love seat and sat down next to him. He leaned back in pain.
"How's your head?" I asked. Tommy reached up to touch the bandages.
"It hurts." Tommy dropped his hand into his lap. We sat in silence for a few
minutes; "Jess," I looked at him; "Why did you offer to let me stay with you?"
I was starting to fell uneasy.
"I knew you'd be safe here." I said looking at him. I could see the pain in
his brown eyes.
"What about you?" He asked sitting up straighter.
"I'll be fine. It's just like boarding school. Trying not to get caught sneaking
out." I couldn't help but smile.
"I never thought of it like that." Tommy's hair was falling in his face as he
leaned forward to rest his elbows on his knees. I started to reach out to move
it so I could see his eyes. I stopped and dropped my hand.
"Would you like something to eat?"
"Yea, that would be great." I stood up and headed for the kitchen. I opened
the refrigerator and tried to think of something to make. I didn't hear Tommy
come into the kitchen, but I felt it when he stopped behind me. He was so close
to me, I almost couldn't breath. I knelt down and grabbed a few things, then
stood and started making a late snack.
"Foods up." I said grabbing two plates and handing one to Tommy. We had sat
down and I was about to take my first bit when the phone rang. I threw my fork
down.
"This has happened since I got here. I'm thinking of taking it off the hook."
I went to the fridge where the cordless was, picked it up and turned it on;
"Hello."
"Hey Jess, this is Kristy. I just wanted to know how Tommy is doing."
"He's doing alright, we were just about to eat." I heard something in the background.
A snicker. Jason.
"Ok then, I'll let you go."
"Alright, later Kristy." I turned the phone off then started eating.
"Jessi,"
"Yes?"
"Where are you glasses?" I showed him where everything was, than sat back down.
We finished eating then I did dishes. When I had finished I went into the living
room. Tommy wasn't there.
"Tommy?" I said; "Tommy?" I began looking all over the house for him. Only to
find him outside in my gym.
"Tommy." He turned around.
"Yea,"
"You ok?"
"I will be." I went inside to gather his things. Tommy came in and plopped back
down in the love seat. His head was in his hands.
"Tommy, what's wrong?"
"I just need some aspirin." He said in pain.
"Ok, hang on a second." He nodded. I returned with some aspirin, a glass of
water and the first aid kit. I handed the aspirin and the cup to him.
"Thanks." He downed the water and set the glass down. After a few seconds he
reached up to touch the bandages. He wanted to take the dressing off.
"Be right back." I stood up and ran into the downstairs bathroom. I grabbed
the hand held mirror that was sitting on the sink basin and went back into the
living room; "Come here." I set the mirror down and knelt in front of him.
"What are you going to do?" He questioned, leaning away from me.
"I'm going to take care of you like I said I would. Now lean forward." He hesitated
at first then leaned toward me. His hair started to fall in his face. I reached
behind my head and took my ponytail holder out of my hair and handed it to Tommy;
"Would you mind doing the honors?" I smiled at him. He had a sheepish look on
his face. He tied his hair back then leaned forward again. Carefully I started
taking the dressing off of Tommy's forehead. It wasn't near as bad as it had
looked earlier. I looked closer at the cut. I hadn't realized how close it was
to Tommy.
"Alpha didn't clean this completely." Tommy shifted his eyes and looked up at
me. I reached down and grabbed the kit that sat next to me. Tommy took the mirror
off of the table.
"No wonder it hurts." The cut went from the corner of his right eye across his
forehead into his hairline.
"I'm going to clean it a little bit better. It may hurt, but don't move." He
nodded. I leaned in closer to him again. Again not realizing how close. I dipped
the end of a q-tip into sterile soapy water then proceeded to clean the cut.
Tommy flinched a little when I got to the deepest part of the cut. The cut had
started to swell slightly. When I was sure it was clean I pulled out some gauze
and some antibiotic ointment.
"Sit still." I carefully dabbed the ointment on, then covered it with the gauze.
I was making sure I had covered as much of the cut as I could when Tommy reached
over and grabbed my hand. That's when I noticed how close we were. I wanted
him to kiss me again, but I was almost scared; "I've got to umm, … put this
stuff away." I stood up and returned the kit to the kitchen cabinet I had found
it in. I leaned up against the fridge. Was I going to be able to handle him
staying here? I had no clue. When I calmed down I went back into the living
room.
"Come on, let me show you your room." Tommy took one more glance in the mirror
at his head before following me. I lead him down the large hallway; "Here you
go." I opened a door to the room that was next to mine.
"Where is your room?" He asked.
"I'm right next to you." I pointed to my door. I made sure he was settled in
before I headed to my room.
"Hey Jess?" Tommy poked his head out of his door.
"Yea." I stopped and turned to him.
"Thanks." He smiled.
"You are very welcome Tommy." I smiled then disappeared into my room. I leaned
up against my door after I closed it. After a minute or so I walked over to
my desk and picked up a book I had been meaning to read. I set it on my bed
then changed. I laid down and began to read. I soon fell asleep.
I woke up with a jerk to my alarm going off. Saturday. Thank God. I laid back
down and looked at the ceiling. I didn't want to move. But I did any way. I
changed into a pair of sweats then headed downstairs. Remembering what had happened
to Tommy yesterday I decided to skip my run and went straight to my practice.
It was about eight thirty when I had finished.
I headed in the house and upstairs. I stopped in front of Tommy's door and listened.
Still asleep, good. I went to my room and directly to the shower. The hot water
felt so good. When I finished I wrapped myself in a towel and went to my closet.
I grabbed my clothing for the day then headed back to the bathroom.
Just then there was a knock at my door. I looked and saw Tommy standing there.
I was suddenly very aware of the fact that all I had on was a towel. I held
me clothes close to me.
"I'm sorry Jess, I'll come back in a few." Tommy moved away from my door.
"No." I moved toward the door. What was I doing? Tommy peaked around the corner;
"What's up?" I folded my arms in front of me.
"I just wanted to know if you would like some breakfast." I stood there in a
towel less than a foot away from Tommy.
"Yea, that would be nice." I nodded. He smiled. We both stood there for a few
seconds longer before Tommy headed downstairs. I shut my door quietly. This
was going to be tough. I finished drying off then got dressed.
